On March 31st, 2008, the Supreme Court of South Carolina released a ruling (from the case against the City of Greenville) stating that local governments in the state have the power to enact smoke-free workplace ordinances. (View Opinion) A second ruling from the Supreme Court of South Carolina released on September 8th, 2008 (from the case against the Town of Sullivan's Island) also affirmed the same. (View Opinion) As of September 2008, twenty-one local governments in South Carolina have passed smoke-free workplace ordinances for the health of all workers (View Map of SC Ordinances).
